FIFPRO has revealed the shortlists for the men's and women's Team of the Year, and they're absolutely stacked with talent. In total, 26 players have been nominated in the men's category, while 23 stars have made the cut on the women's side. Fans will be able to find out who makes each respective FIFA 'World XI' on February 27th but in the meantime, we've taken it upon ourselves to decide who we think deserves to be honoured. It's bad news for Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland fans, with both missing out on our men's team, in favour of some who have been that little bit more outstanding. Ultimately, while it was mightily tough to decide both teams, here's a look at the two XIs we've selected – see if you agree. Cristiano Ronaldo playing for Al-Nassr

Who should make the FIFPRO men's World XI?

  • Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois

Though Emi Martinez produced a heroic display in the World Cup final, there's no looking past Courtois, who has been consistently brilliant for Real Madrid in recent times.

Liverpool fans will forever be haunted by the Belgian's incredible performance in last year's Champions League final.

  • Defence: Achraf Hakimi, Antonio Rudiger, Josko Gvardiol, Theo Hernandez

It's fair to say that Chelsea haven't been the same team since Rudiger left and the German is now an integral part of Madrid's defence.

Gvardiol could soon be set to partner Rudiger, with the Croatian now one of the most in-demand players in Europe, following his outstanding form in Qatar.

Hakimi, likewise performed brilliantly at the World Cup – helping Morocco reach the semi-finals. The full-back also notched 10 goals and assists in the league for PSG last season – not bad for a defender.

Hernandez is another attacking full-back, who has cemented himself as a starter for France and AC Milan. Still only 25, Hernandez could still get even better.

Josko Gvardiol Croatia

In truth, this was the easiest section of the pitch to decide on.

De Bruyne is one of the best passers of a football to ever grace the game and claimed assists galore in 2022.

Bellingham has also been majestic to watch at times and at just 19 years old, it is scary to think how good the England star could become. The teenager has it all, plain and simple.

At the other end of the spectrum, some doubted whether Modric could still do it at 37 years old, but the Croatian silenced his critics by guiding Madrid to another Champions League title.

There are so many exceptional forwards but it's impossible to look past these three.

Messi finally got his hands on the World Cup and won the Golden Ball in the process.

Yet, he was almost denied by an inspired Mbappe, who became just the second player to score a hat-trick in the World Cup final.

Had France also had Benzema, the reigning Ballon d'Or winner, then the outcome may have been different.

  • Goalkeeper: Mary Earps

Earps produced a goalkeeping performance for the ages in the Euro 2022 final and conceded just two goals all tournament.

We're also inclined to pick her based on her hilarious dancing skills.

  • Defenders: Lucy Bronze, Mapi Leon, Wendie Renard, Ashley Lawrence

Bronze has long been one of the best players in the world and the right-back had yet another outstanding year.

It's the same story for Renard, who captained Lyon to a record-extending eighth Champions League title.

As for Leon – the Spaniard is one of the most talented ball-playing centre-backs the women's game has ever produced and played a pivotal role in Barcelona's historic domestic season.

We're aware Lawrence plays right-back more often than not, but for the purpose of this team, we're sure she can fill in on the other side.

The Canadian already has more than 100 international caps and has been exceptional for PSG in recent times.

Putellas has won the women's Ballon d'Or two years in a row and her inclusion requires little explanation.

Her teammate Bonmati was also outstanding last year – scoring 18 goals and registering six assists across the 21/22 season.

It's pleasing that Walsh is finally getting the plaudits she deserves. The midfielder was named Player of the Match in the Euro 2022 final, before moving from Man City to Barcelona for a world-record transfer fee.

Morgan rolled back the years in 2022 and finished as the top scorer in the NWSL.

Kerr, meanwhile, continued to be the most prolific striker in the world – helping Chelsea win yet another WSL title and clinching the league's Golden Boot for the second year in succession.

Occupying the final spot is Mead – the Euro 2022 Player of the Tournament and Golden Boot winner.

The Arsenal star finished second in the Ballon d'Or as well –– narrowly missing out to Putellas.
